🌱 Cleanliness Drives & Infrastructure Overhauls
In November 2024, Kot Addu launched the “My Clean Punjab” program under the Punjab government’s initiative, led by Deputy Commissioner Syed Manwar Bukhari and local officials. The campaign involved community clean-up activities in both the city and surrounding villages, showing a strong push for a cleaner and greener future .
As part of the Punjab Cities Program with World Bank support, the city received new sanitation machinery—compactor trucks, tippers, water trucks, front–end loaders, and garbage containers. This equipment is part of a modern solid waste management system introduced to improve garbage collection and disposal in Kot Addu .
In December 2023, Deputy Commissioner Syed Manwar Abbas Bukhari conducted spot inspections at the Sabzi Mandi, General Bus Stand, Iqbal Park, and other key areas. He ordered improved municipal services, including construction of rickshaw stands and actions against traders encroaching on sidewalks.
🚰 Sewage & Water Treatment Overhaul
A mega sewage and water treatment project, with an estimated Rs 1.25 billion investment, received its NOC in early 2025. Spearheaded by the Punjab Municipal Development department and supported by the World Bank, the initiative will install an underground sewage network and construct a water treatment plant to address long-standing sanitation issues and urban waterlogging.
🌳 Afforestation & Green Awareness
In March 2025, a spring tree-planting drive at Government Associate College of Commerce saw over 30 fruit-bearing trees planted, led by the principal. The goal was to promote environmental consciousness and improve greenery across the region.
Back in August 2021, Khushhali Microfinance Bank volunteers planted 1,000 trees across Kot Addu in partnership with the Irrigation Department—part of their “Plant Khushhali” initiative supporting environmental protection.
4. Tree Plantation & Green Drives
A spring tree-planting drive at the Government Associate College of Commerce in March 2025 planted 30 fruit trees, spearheaded by the principal to foster environmental awareness.Earlier in 2021, Khushhali Bank volunteers planted 1,000 trees near Taunsa Head Works as part of their CSR “Plant Khushhali” program.
. Clean Punjab Program (My Clean Punjab)
Launched in November 2024 at Union Council Naushah Dalai, this grassroots campaign—led by the Deputy Commissioner and local government—is raising public awareness and improving their cleaning routines.
🌱 Challenges & Civic Engagement
Although equipment and policies are improving, implementation depends heavily on public behavior. Many residents still lack environmental awareness, and littering remains an issue—residents and experts note that infrastructure alone isn’t enough without cultural changes.Experiences from cities like Ahmedabad suggest Kot Addu could benefit from GIS-based waste monitoring, stronger private-civic partnerships, and localized data-driven approaches.
