Mother & Child Hospital – Kot Addu: A Dedicated Step Toward Healthier Futures
The planned 50-bed Mother & Child Hospital in Kot Addu is a transformative healthcare initiative under the Punjab government’s broader vision to uplift maternal and child health services in underserved areas of southern Punjab. Announced in June 2021, the hospital is part of a series of provincial-level interventions aimed at bridging the healthcare gap for women and infants. Strategically designed to be constructed on government-allotted land within the tehsil, the facility will be fully state-sponsored, ensuring affordability and accessibility for the region’s growing population.
This purpose-built hospital will serve as a specialized institution focusing entirely on obstetric care, neonatal services, and pediatric treatment. Its role is to complement and relieve pressure from the already-established Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital Kot Addu, which, since its inception in 1979, has played a pivotal role in delivering multi-specialty healthcare services. With over 90 operational beds, THQ Hospital caters to an estimated 1.2 million people, offering services across gynecology, pediatrics, general medicine, cardiology, surgery, dermatology, eye care, radiology, and more. However, with growing patient volumes, the burden on THQ facilities has intensified over the years.
The Mother & Child Hospital is envisioned to bridge this gap by offering dedicated maternity wards, neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), immunization services, counseling rooms, labor rooms, and child wellness centers—delivered in a focused and female-friendly environment. Additionally, it will support antenatal and postnatal care, helping reduce maternal and infant mortality rates that still persist in many rural parts of Pakistan.
Beyond infrastructure, the hospital is expected to bring qualified gynecologists, pediatricians, and trained nursing staff to the tehsil—enhancing both service quality and capacity. It will also likely engage in community outreach and awareness programs on maternal nutrition, family planning, and child development, playing a crucial role in prevention and early intervention.
Once operational, the Mother & Child Hospital in Kot Addu will not only ease pressure on existing hospitals but will become a cornerstone of regional healthcare, offering timely, specialized, and compassionate care to thousands of families each year. It represents a forward-thinking public health milestone, focused on long-term well-being and empowerment of women and children in the region.
