🚧 Meer Chakar-e-Azam Rind Flyover – Connecting Kot Addu for the Future
The newly approved Meer Chakar-e-Azam Rind Flyover, set to span the North Railway level crossing at Shumali Phatak–Daira Din Panah Road, marks a major leap forward for Kot Addu’s infrastructure. Sanctioned by the Punjab Provincial Development Working Party in December 2021 with an investment of Rs 633 million, this project aims to eliminate persistent traffic bottlenecks caused by train crossings and ease transportation flow across the tehsil .
A monitoring report from June 2023 confirms that construction is underway, with civil engineering teams actively working on the flyover foundations and approaches. Once completed, it will dramatically reduce waiting times and improve connectivity for commuters, farmers transporting goods, and emergency services alike.
🚗 Why It Matters
Uninterrupted Traffic Flow: Trains used to block crossings for extensive periods, disrupting economic and daily life. The flyover will allow road users safe and seamless travel above railway lines.
Enhanced Road Safety: By removing level crossings, the project significantly reduces the risk of collision between rail and road traffic.
Economic Boost: Farmers, traders, and transporters will save time, reduce fuel costs, and move goods more efficiently—reinforcing Kot Addu’s position as a regional agricultural hub.
Named in honor of the revered Baloch chieftain Mir Chakar Khan Rind (also known as Chakar-e-Azam), the flyover embodies both progress and cultural heritage .
🏗️ Construction Status
The Directorate General of Monitoring & Evaluation released a detailed report in June 2023 confirming active construction progress .
Early earthworks and foundation-laying have commenced, with piling and structural work underway.
🌉 Expected Benefits
Traffic Flow: Elimination of repeated waiting times at railway crossings, especially between Kot Addu and Taunsa.
Economic Uplift: Faster movement of agricultural goods—cotton, sugarcane, citrus—boosting local trade.
Safety Gains: Reduced risk of road–rail accidents and improved emergency vehicle access.
Heritage Link: The naming reconnects modern infrastructure with Kot Addu’s Baloch identity and cultural pride in Chakar-e-Azam.
